Boston Art~ How to Paint Glass

Light and Glass are exquisite playmates. Sometimes bending, sometimes bouncing, light penetrates glass and splashes color like liquid. Learn to paint the exhilarating effects of tinged illumination in a 4-day oil painting workshop given by Melody Phaneuf at Fenway Studios, Boston.
Focus is on painting the elusive transparency of glass within a simple still life arrangement. Immerse yourself in a traditional approach to oil painting in ideal, north light studio conditions.
Workshop is April 18-21, from 1:00–3:30; cost is $295. Space is limited. A list of supplies will be provided.

Moved by the Spirit

Peaceful Harbor, oil painting by Melody Phaneuf

~

For as long as I can remember I have believed that my purpose is to make things. I recall long preschool afternoons with my mother, joyfully immersed in constructing dollhouses from cardboard boxes. I loved to “color,” and was always happy with crayons, paper, and imagination. Continue reading~

A Discriminating Vision

“When I move, all I’m taking is my painting.”

Sophie is five years old and has outgrown her bedroom. I was happy to hear through her family grapevine, that she has her aesthetic priorities in order. I must also admit that I’m a bit relieved that Outside The Box made Sophie’s discriminating cut for her new bedroom. Continue reading~

Colorful Consequences

Fragrant Delight, oil panting by Boston Artist, Melody Phaneuf
~

Why do we find certain combinations of color pleasing? Color satisfies other senses in addition to sight, like touch and taste. For example, sunny yellows and orange hues on a cold day may take our minds off the chill, and dark, warm browns might remind us of cocoa. Continue reading~

Charlie Sleeps Tonight by Melody Phaneuf, Commissioned Artwork
